Clipping

In order to cut out a motif from its background and create a stand-alone object, a clipping path is created. The goals is to crop a selected object properly, carefully tracing its contours. Those clipped objects can now be transferred into other images or their background can be coloured or softened.

Software like Adobe Photshop paired with professional expertise allows for perfect results with invisible transitions between the clipped object and its new background. Working with Adobe Photoshop, image editors can employ multiple paths and layers and draw on aids like the pencil tool to trace edges and curves precisely. That's how the clipping paths gain a natural flow, that perfectly matches all contours and details of the detached element.

Some clipping option are based on the complex mathematic Bezier curve which also provides the basis for vector graphics. This curve enables the clipping of motifs without removing pixels from the image.
