File formats

In order to display and process images with a computer, they have to be available in digital form.

Every digital picture is composed of a collection of data about size, colour, colour depth, brightness etc. The more complex the picture, the bigger the volume of data. The file format determines the form in which these data are saved. The most common file types for images are JPG, PNG, GIF, EPS, PSD, TIF or RAW. You can find all of these in our lexicon.
